Mnjikaning First Nation’s Black River Park suffered severe trailer damage in the wake of a flood which happened April 10, causing extensive damage to the trailer park. The flood damaged trailers, the park’s showers, the play ground area, and trees.

The park has been in operation since the early 70’s. Park Manager Penny Noganosh said she could not remember if the park had ever seen such a flood since the park has been used as a family getaway offering trailer and camping facilities.

If the Ministry of Natural Resources had something to do with regards to the Trent Severn system then she was not notified of their plans to open up the system. There was no monetary figure as to the actual damage that was done to the park, but according to band officials if any fault is laid then it would be with the MNR which would be responsible for the cause. According to band manager Danny Shilling, the band was not carrying any flood insurance.
