![]() The Iroquois Confederacy is structured by clans. Clans help maintain order in the Confederacy. It is forbidden to have children or marry within your own clan. A child takes the clan of their mother,if the mother does not have a clan then an adoption process must take place in order to achieve a clan, song, and a name. In the case of a person of a foreign nation wishes to accept the Great Peace then they too must go through an adoption process and hence have a name "hung around the neck". KENTARA'SHON'A
RON'THAHONNI --- WOLF CLAN ROTISKEREWAKE --- BEAR CLAN Clans are a very important element in the political structure of the Rotinonsionni Confederacy. Within each clan are "titles of office",the titles are held by chosen people of a particular clan and nation. For each nation their are a specific amount of delegates for each clan. The term used for the male delegates is Rotiianer and for the female delegates it is Kontiianehshon. The Chiefs and Clan mothers came about with the Great Law of Peace. Before them all the people had was the clans to keep the families distinct, and so that there wouldn't be any intermarriages. The Great Law simply placed a form of representation to each clan and gave instruction to the people who occupied the clans, on how to approach their matters with peace, power, and righteousness in mind. It also stopped the bloodshed and cannibalism that occupied the people at that point in time. E-Mail Me |
