Symbolizes the relationship between the Iroquois and the Whiteman. The two rows represent two vessels traveling down the same river together. A birch bark canoe will be for the Onkwe'thonwe(Original people), for thier laws, costumes and ways. The other will be a ship for the whiteman's laws, costumes and ways. According to the agreement neither the Iroquois or the whiteman could make compulsory laws or interfere with the internal affairs of the other, neither one would try to steer the other's vessel. The Onkwe'thonwe gave the whiteman the understanding that this agreement will excist for as long sun shines, the rivers flow, and the grass grows green at a certain times of the year. |
