CAPLA BOARD PLANNING SESSION

Submitted by Sandra Evans, Secretary, CAPLA Board of Directors

The CAPLA Board of Directors met for a Strategic Planning Session, September 11-13, 1998 at the Delta Chelsea in Toronto, Ontario. Board members began the session with an update of PLA activities within their own province/jurisdiction. The Board has been working on a proposal, "The Development of Benchmarks for Practice for PLAR Assessment and PLAR Assessors" for some time. At this point, discussions are still ongoing with HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT CANADA as a possible funder of this project. A subcommittee of the Board was established and agreed to meet with Daniela DiBartolo of HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT CANADA on October 6, 1998 to further discuss the proposal.

Other Highlights:

  • Bruce Millar of FNTI met with the Board on the second day. There was much discussion around CAPLA and the need to still do some groundwork, particularly with respect to fund raising. The Board members agreed to retain Bruce, free gratis, for two months beginning October 1, 1998, to continue with some of this organizational development and seek possible funding sources. As part of this work, Bruce will develop an operational plan that will include tasks for the Board of Directors.

  • The Board discussed the upcoming annual conference in May 1999. Plans for the conference are well underway which include some activities to celebrate this very special 10th anniversary.

  • The Board will be setting up sub-committees to better organize the variety of tasks at hand. These will include Professional Development/Conference; Administration/ Finance and Marketing/Recruitment, with two board members on each sub-committee.
