CTHRB VALIDATING AGENTS FOR ASSESSMENT OF CANADIAN TECHNOLOGY STANDARDS

Submitted by Malcolm Day, Senior Lecturer, University of Sheffield

The Canadian Human Resources Technology Board (CTHRB) have enlisted the help of CAPLA to develop criteria and procedures for approval of Canadian Technology Standards (CTS) Validating Agents. CAPLA and FNTI will work with the CTHRB to: The project team recognize that safety is key to the work of technicians and technologists. Therefore public confidence in an individual’s ability to practice must be maintained.

The integrity of the Canadian Technology Standards and the process by which they are validated must also be maintained. This can only be achieved through a rigorous process of assessment and quality assurance.

The project team also recognize the possible tensions which may exist between the need to identify a rigorous process and the need for organizations who offer education and training to maintain their own identity and autonomy. The project team will work with an advisory committee to develop a policy and a process which is workable.

Malcolm Day, a Senior Lecturer in Curriculum Design and Work Place Assessment, has been seconded from the University of Sheffield to CAPLA and FNTI to undertake the policy development work. Malcolm can be contacted at m.r.day@sheffield.ac.uk
